“The N.I.C.K. Foundation's speaker was very inspiring. He explained his ideas on how to be successful and got me thinking about what I wanted to do when I finished school. When I got home I told my mum about what he had said, so we had a long talk about setting goals for the future.”

“That was not what I expected! I was expecting a lecture, but instead heard great stories from inspiring people. My son hasn’t stopped talking about it!”

Participant & Contributor

Being a part of The N.I.C.K. Foundation enabled me to achieve things I never thought I was capable of. It challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and in doing so I gained greater self-belief and resilience. One of my favourite parts of being involved in The N.I.C.K. Foundation has been witnessing first hand the positive impact it has had on so many other young people’s confidence and social wellbeing.

”The N.I.C.K. Foundation has empowered me to empower others. The life skills I have learnt in a positive environment, with like minded people has allowed me to have a new look on life. The friendships I have forged have enabled me to grow not only as a person but as an active member in our community. I am forever grateful to The N.I.C.K. Foundation for paving the way of the man I want to be.”

Mental health does not discriminate. This is our story.

The N.I.C.K. Foundation was initiated by three friends following the tragic loss of one of their sons Nicholas Buttifant. Nick was a much loved 20 year old musician who took his own life in February 2009. The idea was born from the desire to give parents and our youth hope and to instill belief in their future. Through presentations, the Foundation offers parents, their children and mentors the opportunity to hear and share stories from inspirational people. These stories and the messages within provide a platform for discussion and a toolkit to assist our youth and parents when faced with life’s challenges. The name and the logo for the Foundation represent the person that the Foundation was named after. Nick’s name became the acronym for the title of the Foundation; Nurturing, Independence, Commitment and Knowledge. The symbol of a phoenix conveys the idea of rising each time you fall, just as the phoenix rises from its ashes.
